I put it inside the doors and rear quarter panels (on the inside of exterior sheet metal), on the floor, along the frame of the hatch -- basically anywhere there's an expanse of metal that might vibrate. I also used it to seal up large cavities (so, on the inner skin of the doors and kick panels), and to shrink holes where wires, cables, levers, or tubes are routed through panels. I ordered 37.5 sq. ft. of it, and ended up keeping a square foot or two as left-overs. I figured it'll come in handy for something... Yes, the MLV ~DOES~ need to be form fitted, to a certain extent. The idea is to use it to create a barrier, to block the transmission of sound. For the floor of the hatch, I used my rug as a template. (That's the 10-pound piece I mentioned in the article.) For the walls of the hatch, I measured the depth and width, and allowed for the Velcro to hold it in place in such a way that the seams slightly overlap, so there are no openings to allow the sound through. All of that MLV in the hatch comes out when I want to trade comfort for speed.
